FOREHEAD REDUCTION & HAIRLINE ADVANCEMENT

Some people are naturally born with a larger or taller forehead and a recessed hairline. This can unfortunately cause issues with self-confidence and can effect the way one styles their hair. Forehead reduction or hairline lowering is a surgical procedure that can reduce the height of the forehead by advancing the hairline forehead. This can give a more natural appearance to the forehead and hairline. It can be combined with a browlift if desired as well.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR FOREHEAD REDUCTION?

Forehead reduction or hairline advancement surgery can provide natural results for individuals looking to correct a tall, high, or large forehead with a recessed frontal hairline. Patients considering this surgery treatment typically report the following concerns:

  • Large forehead

  • Tall forehead

  • Recessed frontal hairline

  • Self-conscious about hairline/forehead

  • Wears bangs or hats to hide forehead

HOW IS FOREHEAD REDUCTION PERFORMED?

Forehead reduction is best performed with you completely asleep in comfortable under general anesthesia in the operating room. After careful, precise measurements and markings are made, an incision is made along the frontal hairline. Dissection is performed under the scalp and forehead in order to advance the hairline forward and down. Excess skin is measured and trimmed. The new position of the hairline is secured using absorbable implants and then several layers of meticulous suturing are performed. A browlift can be performed at the same time if desired.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER FOREHEAD REDUCTION SURGERY

A light compressive dressing is used for the first 24 hours. The incision is closed with sutures that require wound care for the first week. After 1 week Dr. Gerecci will see you in the office to remove the sutures and check on wound healing. It is normal to have headache, pressure sensation, and nausea the first few days after surgery. Usually pain is minimal  in the first few days after surgery, although a pressure sensation  may last longer. After sutures are removed Dr. Gerecci will go over new instructions for wound care and minimizing the appearance of the scar.

ARE THERE NON-SURGICAL ALTERNATIVES TO FOREHEAD REDUCTION?

The non-surgical alternative to forehead reduction is hair transplant. Hairs can be transplanted into the frontal hairline to make it look lower. However, this can look unnatural and it is more effective to surgically lower the hairline to make the forehead size smaller.
