AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A FACIAL IMPLANT?
Cheek implants can be used to add definition and restore fullness characteristic of youth in the cheek area that may appear sunken or hollow. Depending on your cosmetic goals, the procedure can add youthful roundness to the mid-face, increase the projection of the cheekbones, or simply add volume to flat or recessed cheeks. The implant is inserted through an incision made inside the mouth. .
Chin implants can provide a stronger jawline contour and facial profile for individuals affected by a weak or unpronounced chin. The procedure is often used to increase the projection of a recessed chin for a more symmetrical and balanced facial appearance. Chin implants can also be utilized to offset the look of a pronounced nose. Once the most optimal implant size and shape is selected, the implant is inserted through an incision made either inside the mouth or on the underside of the chin.
HOW IS A FACIAL IMPLANT PERFORMED?
There are several types of implants, and the approaches associated with each can vary. Sometimes an incision is made incision the mouth. Other times an incision is made through the skin. Most implants can be placed under sedation, or a general anesthetic.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER FACIAL IMPLANT SURGERY
The following day, Dr. Gerecci—our facial plastic surgeon in Portland—will see the patient in clinic and check all incisions as well as go over all wound care measures dependent on the approach taken. Patients should expect swelling following placement of facial implants, which resolves after the first week. Patients usually have minimal downtime of one week before returning to work.
