BROWLIFT &

FOREHEAD

LIFT

A brow lift, or forehead lift, is a procedure designed to enhance the aesthetic appearance of the forehead, eyes, and the upper third of the face.  Low set brows can give the appearance of looking angry, tired, or sad. The brow can be stabilized in a natural position without looking overly done or surprised.  There are many techniques in performing browlift surgery- Dr. Gerecci likes to use an endoscopic technique that hides the incisions behind the hairline.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A BROWLIFT?

Good candidates for a brow lift generally include men and women who have one or more of the following aesthetic concerns:

  • Heavy or droopy eyebrows

  • Excess, sagging skin and wrinkles at the outer corners of the upper eyes

  • Deep lines and creases along the forehead or between the eyebrows

HOW IS A BROWLIFT PERFORMED?

Brow lifts are typically performed with you completely asleep and comfortable under general anesthetic. There are several techniques and approaches used in brow lifting. Our Portland facial plastic surgeon—Dr. Deniz Gerecci—believes in natural looking results and not giving someone a "surprised" or "spock brow" look. The traditional browlift is performed using an endoscopic technique and uses small hidden incisions behind the hairline. Some patients may require a "trichophytic" hairline incision if they have a larger/taller size forehead. Some patients only require a "temporal browlift" which just lifts and stabilizes the lateral 1/3 of the brows.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER BROWLIFT SURGERY

The morning after the surgery, Dr. Gerecci will see you in clinic to check incisions, remove the head wrap, and go over all wound care. Depending on the approach taken, you may experience headaches, tightness to the forehead, and numbness of the scalp. Swelling is expected; you should continue use of cool compresses and keep the head elevated. If sutures or staples are used externally, they are removed on day seven following the surgery. Patients usually have minimal downtime of one to two weeks before returning to work, and we ask those patients traveling from out of town to stay for routine checks during this time period.

ARE THERE NON-SURGICAL ALTERNATIVES TO BROWLIFT?

There are no non-surgical treatments that can achieve the quality and longevity of rejuvenation a brow lift is able to accomplish. But for those who are not quite ready for surgery and/or do not mind returning for continual touch-up visits, minimally invasive options like neuromodulators or dermal fillers can help diminish signs of aging in the forehead region.
