EARLOBE
REPAIR &
REDUCTION IN PORTLAND
Earlobes can become stretched, torn, or deformed from the weight of jewelry, ear gauging, or trauma. By reestablishing the contour and symmetry of the ear lobule, Portland facial plastic surgeon Deniz Gerecci, MD, can help restore a natural appearance and—if desired—reconstruct the earlobe to allow a patient to re-pierce their ear.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A EARLOBE REPAIR OR REDUCTION?
If you feel your earlobes are too long, stretched, malformed, torn or you are unhappy with the appearance of your earlobes, you may be a good candidate. Sometimes people have ear piercings that no longer fit due to a stretched ear lobe and this can easily be corrected.
HOW IS A EARLOBE REPAIR OR REDUCTION PERFORMED?
Earlobe repair is performed under local anesthesia and is an outpatient procedure. Incisions are needed to remove any scar tissue from previous piercings, plugs, or gauges. There is an array of techniques that may be employed to repair your earlobe depending on the specific problem. Following the procedure, earlobe incisions are sutured closed and the area is taped. Patients often return to work almost immediately after this type of surgery.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER EARLOBE SURGERY
After the procedure, there is some expected swelling of the earlobe, but little to no pain is associated with the treatment. After one week, the sutures are removed. The earlobes should continue to heal over the course of several weeks. If desired, the ears can be pierced six weeks following the procedure.
ARE THERE NON-SURGICAL ALTERNATIVES TO EARLOBE SURGERY?
Typically, ear lobes are best corrected surgically. Some people may like the improved shape and fullness of an earlobe after filler injection, but this does not solve all ear lobe problems.
