MICRO-NEEDLING

Microneedling, also known as "collagen induction therapy" is a quick, in-office treatment that improves acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, visible pores, and the overall quality and texture of the skin. It can be used on the face, neck, and upper chest. Dr. Gerecci exclusively uses the SkinPen® Precision device, which causes controlled micro-injuries that stimulate your body’s natural wound healing process, while minimizing cellular damage. The result is effective remodeling of scar tissue, while keeping the overall structure of the skin intact

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling can be performed on a range of different skin types with the applicable cosmetic concerns. Depending on the depth of treatment and location, a patient may benefit from microneedling if they have:

  • acne scarring

  • fine lines and wrinkles

  • skin texture issues

  • prominent pores

  • want to improve the overall quality of the skin of their face, neck, and upper chest

HOW IS MICRONEEDLING PERFORMED?

Microneedling is performed in the office. First, a topical anesthetic applied to the skin about 20 minutes prior to treatment. The skin is then cleansed and microneedling performed. The treatment itself takes about 15-20 minutes. Dr. Gerecci exclusively uses the SkinPen® Precision,is a medical grade microneedling pen and the only FDA approved Class II microneedling device in the US!

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER MICRONEEDLING

Microneedling has very minimal downtime. For a few hours after the procedure your skin will be pink-red, like after a sunburn. You will be given instructions on special skin care products to use for the first week after the treatment. Specific restrictions like when you can apply makeup again and exercise are reviewed during your consultation.

Microneedling induces new formation of collagen and elastin. It can take 4-6 weeks before initial results are seen. Ideal results are obtained when 3 treatments are performed, approximately 4-6 weeks apart. Your specific treatment regimen will be reviewed during your consultation.

WHAT ADDITIONAL TREATMENTS CAN BE DONE AT THE SAME TIME?

Collagen induction therapy occurs from microneedling alone. However, the effects and recovery time can be boosted by the application of topical serums or medications immediately after microneedling. This includes platelet rich plasma (PRP) and exosomes. Learn more about the benefit of these add-on treatments here.

ARE THERE ALTERNATIVES TO MICRONEEDLING?

Alternatives to microneedling for skin resurfacing include chemical peel or laser skin resurfacing
